Cerro Alto

Cerro Alto means “high hill” in Spanish. It’s located roughly midway between Atascadero and Morro Bay along narrow Hwy 41. Here are a few pics from today’s hike for your vicarious pleasure. Click to enlarge. 😉

Horsetails! A living fossil from the Carboniferous period 300 ~ million years ago (though those distant relatives are called Calamites). These guys are between 2 and 4 feet tall, but back then they reached heights exceeding 100 feet.

Good ‘ol poison oak.

A close up of it’s berries.

The bees were just loving the sage.

A rest stop for the weary.

AAAAAAAA!

Chaparral Pea!

Making a friend at the top.

That’s the ocean out there on the right horizon.

Erm, pardon!

Chinese houses.

KODAK Digital Still Camera We had to step off the narrow trail while five very loud off-road dirt bikes (motorcycles) went by. Quite illegal on trails designated for hiking!
